It's time for spring cleaning

Spring cleaning

Finally, some warm and sunny weather has arrived!  One thing I like to do on days like these is throw open my windows, let the fresh air in and remove all the clutter that has accumulated during the winter.  I love that once I am done anyone can open a closet door only to find organization (no skeletons or mismatched gloves).  It’s also a great timesaver – my favorite sunglasses and gardening clogs are right where they should be!  Being organized helps me find more time for doing what I love.

What about your organization?  Can you throw open the doors and all that your stakeholders see is a well-organized operation?  Are your corporate record books up to date?  Is your database accurate?  Are your policies and strategic plan living documents and not on a shelf gathering dust?  If a potential donor/funder walked in right now to assess operations before committing to a large donation/grant, would your nonprofit pass a “white glove test”?  Are you able to commit your time to your mission and the work you are passionate about doing without being distracted because something is not in order?

If you answered no, perhaps it is time for a little “spring cleaning.”  Take a look around, roll up your sleeves and get things in order.  And then reap the rewards.  Sit back, feel the satisfaction and smile!  And enjoy the sunshine!
